(MAR 6) On March 17, 2012, in Mexico City, Mexico, Maria Elena “The Rush” Villalobos will fight Alicia “Slick” Ashley for the WBC Super Bantamweight world title.

Ashley, originally from Jamaica, who fights out of New York, will be fighting out of venue, when she goes to Mexico to take on Villalobos--but Ashley has not been known to shy away from such challenges.

Ashley, a southpaw, who is a quick and slick boxer, now in her forty's, has been known as a tough opponent to beat has thus far defeated,  or drawn major top women in the sport other places such as, Germany, Argentina, Guyana, Nevada, USA. She has also taken her losses in out of venue areas, but some were close split decision losses, and she has yet to be stopped in the sport.  Her current record is 17-9-1 (1KO).

Mexico’s Villalobos, 12-5-1 (5KO), on the other hand has won fights against much less experienced and noted boxers, and has lost to any of the more prominent boxers she has fought as of this date.

Villalobos definitely will have her work cut out for her against Ashley, but who knows if the "Hometown" advantage plays a part in this upcoming fight.

Villalobos said,,  “I will look for the knockout round after round. This is the only way to become an absolute world champion. For starters, this is my ultimate dream come true, is the ability to become an absolute world champion. The maximum motivation and happiness, is that the fight will be in Mexico City, that is, my home, which will be a big shot in the arm."
