(NOV 10) WBAN received a request
from Sharon Gaines to set the record straight on her management
of fights and other issues. Gaines told WBAN that if anyone is
interested in putting her on cards, to contact her directly.
Gaines said, "I think there may be some confusion as over
the years. I have been contacted by various coaches and
managers, that are not mine, regarding fights."
Gaines can be contacted at
sharongaines@hotmail.com or call the
Las Vegas Athletic Commission for her phone number.
Gaines is always training and ready to fight---as we saw when
she took a fight with Carina Moreno on short notice.
"I fight for no other reason than I love this sport. I have
often fought on short notice, in other women's hometowns and at
a variety of weight classes. I do not have a 'built up' or
'protected' record. I don't care about the politics of boxing
and never have. I love to fight. I love to be in the ring. I
honestly don't know how good I am due to short notice fights and
tough decisions. All I DO know is that as long as I keep
stepping into the ring and have the desire to fight I will bring
all I have to the ring and leave it all there," added Gaines.
Gaines told WBAN that she had read that Carina Moreno, felt that
she was a tune-up fight so that she could rematch with Yesica
Bopp. And also that Moreno could "shake off the ring rust"
after her 11 month lay off when she fought her [in regards to
Moreno's fight with Gaines].
Gaines responded with, "I had been out of
the ring for 2 years and 8 months with NO fights. Although I
needed to be technically sharper (and would be with preparation)
I did not need a tune-up bout to agree to a fight with
Moreno (on 2 1/2 day notice) and do not need a tune-up for
anyone else out there in the 110-112 lb weight class. As a
matter of fact, I have never even had the luxury of getting
'tune up' fights. I took a big chance taking on Moreno on short
notice after such a long lay off....but I did it just for the
pleasure, the joy, the love of the sport and the opportunity to
fight. And I would do it again."
