(OCT 30) In the co-main event,
Jaci ‘The Force’ Trivilino, 125, Plattsburgh, pounded out a
unanimous points win over the sledgehammer-fisted Angel
‘Non-Stop’ Gladney, 125, Columbia, SC in a lively scrap at the
Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY.
Trivilino’s two-fisted swarming attack to the head and body
proved too much for Gladney to handle as she was repeatedly
beaten to the punch. Jaci effectively avoided Gladney’s counters
by stepping laterally and countering with snappy right hands to
the head and left hooks to the body.
Gladney tired visibly after the fourth round, managed to avoid a
stoppage loss by retreating and only engaging Trivilino in spots
over the final two rounds.
Each judge scored 60-54 in favor of Jaci Trivilino who moved to
8-3-2 with 1 kayo. With the loss, Angel Gladney drops to 6-5-1
with 5 kayos, but received heavy applause for her effort. This
author scored the bout: 60-54 Trivilino.
On the undercard, in a sadly familiar story, Sarah ‘The
Knockout’ Kuhn, 145, Schoharie, appeared to have won clearly,
over the skilled, but amateurish Jeanine ‘Kali’ Reis, 146,
Lincoln, Rhode Island, but the judges had more to do with the
outcome of the fight than the fighters.
Sarah Kuhn controlled the action throughout, successfully
evading Reis’s jab which allowed her to get inside and
underneath her taller opponent. When there, Kuhn countered with
blistering right hands and left hooks.
Jeanine Reis stood too tall on the inside and was relegated to
absorbing Kuhn’s punches and clinching.
Kuhn snapped her opponents head back with the first punch of the
fight, momentarily stunned Reis with a well placed left hook to
the chin in the third, and completely dominated the fifth.
Reis displayed good long-range boxing skills, threw nice
three-punch combinations, but waited too long to counter
mistakes with her right hand causing her punch output to be
pedestrian. Reis’s best round was the fourth when she asserted
herself early in the round, but fell back into the pattern of
waiting for a perfect opportunity to counter allowing Kuhn to
rally.
In the end, the fight was declared a draw. The decision of the
judges was less than warmly received by the near capacity crowd.
Scores: 58-57 Reis, 58-56 Kuhn, 57-57 even. I saw it 60-54 for
Kuhn. Kuhn moves to 3-2-1 with a lone kayo win. The draw now
moves Jeanine Reis to 2-1-1 with a kayo.
