(AUG 3) Nothing would please me
any more than to write up some great and glorious fight report on
these title bouts that seems to continue to take place in the
sport.
But unfortunately as they say,
"It is...what it is". So with that said, I will
report the results and stats of this title fight that took place
on July 30, 2011, at the Deportivo Trabajadores del Metro,
Iztacalco, Mexico.
On this date, Maria Salinas, 104¼, 22, of McAllen, Texas,
won the vacant WBC "Youth" World light flyweight title, when her
opponent, Tania Cosme, 105, unknown age, retired in the fifth round. The bout
was scheduled for 10 rounds.
Tale of the tape for ratings and boxing records of these two:
Salinas came into the fight with a
8-1-1 record. Cosme,
2-1-1 (0KO) record. Salinas is ranked #11 and Cosme, ranked
#34 with Boxrec.
[I will not get into the
fact that Salinas fought in the same month against Esmeralda
Moreno for another WBC title, losing that bout, just prior to
fighting in this WBC Title bout.]
This was a rematch for Salinas and Cosme, whereas in their first
fight, Cosme lost by a six-round unanimous decision.
Cosme's boxing record going into the championship fight:
Well...beside the one previous loss to Salinas, the breakdown of
her record is as follows:
Cosme defeated Yazmin Marin, 1-0-1, and Isabel Mejia,
winless at 0-1-0, and she had one draw against Yazmin Marin,
1-0-0. With only four pro fights on her resume,
Cosme managed to earn a chance at a world title youth
championship.
Next, one might ask: How do these two rate within
the WBC organization they were fighting for?
Response: In the WBC ratings, in the July 2011
ratings, Salinas is ranked #22 as a light flyweight, and Cosme
is not ranked.
You figure it out folks....WBAN
can't.
