(JUNE 12) Amanda Serrano made her
New York City debut an explosive one with an overwhelming TKO of
Jennifer Scott at 1:46 of the first round of a featured bout on
a six fight card, jointly promoted by DiBella Entertainment and
Gary Shaw Productions at Roseland Ballroom on Saturday night.
With the win Serrano takes over the NABF featherweight
title.
Serrano, a southpaw, who came to the ring at 125 lb, stormed
from her corner, at the opening bell, catching Scott, 124.5, in
the middle of the ring, with powerful straight lefts while
pursuing her retreating opponent all over the ring throughout
the first thirty seconds of the bout. Shortly before the minute
mark, a huge Serrano left hand buckled Scott's knees and twenty
seconds later, Scott was on the canvas from another big left
hand. Following the mandatory eight count, Serrano, sensing
victory, swarmed all over her opponent, driving Scott to the
ropes where the referee stepped in and, correctly, stopped the
onslaught.
Serrano raised her record to 10-0-1, while Scott dropped to 2-4,
suffering her first stoppage. The win, most notably, the
devastating nature of the win, propels Serrano into any
conversation concerning female featherweights in the sport. It
is one of the most competitive and talent laden weight divisions
in Women's boxing and there are a number of compelling match-ups
readily available for this twenty-two year old
It took far too long for Amanda Serrano to bring her talent to
Broadway. On the basis of her opening night performance at
Roseland Ballroom, an encore is definitely in order.
