(MAR 2) In our first "Where Are
They Now" story, WBAN made contact with
Rita
Figueroa who was
seriously injured in 2009 from boxing. She told WBAN
the following:
"Besides being still married with
a now 23 year old daughter and still working full time for AT&T,
I am still very much involved in boxing. I have been training
some amateur fighters as well as working with a few pros.

If you recall Francisco "Paco"
Rodriguez - the young boxer that passed away shortly after my
injury - I am working with his brother Alex Rodriguez as he
continues on his quest as a fighter.
"Team La Guera" has four fighters in this years Chicago Golden
Gloves tournament starting in a few weeks, and win or lose - I
couldn't be more blessed to work with such a great group of
people, and very lucky that Sam has taken time to be mentor to
me get more experience training in the pro ranks as well helping
with fighter Sergio Montes de Oca.

Outside of the gym, I have been doing a lot of running with one
of my corner people Angela Gibson and finished the 2010 Chicago
Marathon last year. We'll run it again to improve our time.
Thank you so much for all you continue to do for Women's Boxing,
and the continued interest in what us "retired" fighters are up
to!"
