Special Tribute to Photographer Roger Williams
by Sue TL Fox
January 28, 2011

(JAN 28) WBAN recently learned that top photographer Roger Williams passed away on January 26th, in Phoenix, Arizona.   Williams shot photos for boxing sites, and he was also a UPI, Washington Post, and a White House Photographer.

Roger covered boxing for 20 plus years, and he was very well-known around the boxing circles.  You could see many of his great photos on Fightnews.com and Boxinginlasvegas.com, among many more publications.  Williams also would on occasion contribute photos to WBAN for boxing fans to see some great photos of the women boxing in the ring.

I took this photo of Williams in 2000, when I was at the Hard Rock Casino/Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, covering the pro debut of  Irichelle Duran.  We were above the ring at this fight to shoot photos.

One of the most high profile women's bouts that Roger covered for WBAN, was in June of 2003, when he shot the Laila Ali vs. Valerie Mahfood (rematch), and the Lucia Rijker vs. Jane Couch, in Los Angeles, California.  I was thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to have this coverage on WBAN.

WBAN would like to send our sincere condolences to his family and friends---he will truly be missed.  R.I.P.  Roger...
