(DEC 30) In January of
2011, it looks like women's boxing will begin the year with a
bang. There is a lot of boxing action for this month.
The first match of the year looks like it will be on January
7th, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A
pro debuter, Melissa Littlejohn will be fighting on the
undercard in a four round bout.
The next day, January 8th, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Yanina
Acuna will be facing an undetermined opponent in another
four-round bout; at another venue, at the Arena
Coliseo, in Mexico City, Mexico, there will be a WBC Youth
Strawweight title up for grabs between Ibeth Zamora
Silva vs. Nancy Franco. The two are scheduled to
fight 10 rounds.
On January 9th, at the Hotel & Casino Conrad, in Punta del Este,
Uruguay, there will be two female bouts on the card. In one
10-round bout, lightweights Cecilia Comunales vs.
Halana Dos Santos. In another 10-round bout, Hanna
Gabriel vs. Melisenda Perez. The two will be fighting
for the WBO junior middleweight title.
On January 13, at the Masonic Temple, in Brooklyn, New York, and
promoted by Maureen Shea's Pandora Promotions and in association
with Global Boxing Promotions,
Alicia
"Slick" Ashley,
of Brooklyn, New York, will be a featured attraction on this
card. Ashley, a very talented female boxer will be fighting an
eight round bout on the card. Her opponent will be Crystal
Hoy, of Las Vegas, Nevada.
On this same night, at Remington Park, in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, on the undercard in a four-round bout, junior
flyweights Rebecca Miller will take on Treasure
Saunders.
On January 14, at the Club Belgrano, in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
there is one women's bout on the undercard that will feature
Ana Laura Esteche, making her pro debut. There is no
opponent listed at this time.
On January 15, in Kibňn, Montevideo, Uruguay, on the undercard,
Gabriela Bouvier will fight Carina Maria Britos in
a four-rounder, super flyweight division. In a co-main on
the card, junior welterweight
Chris Namus
will face Colombian Darys Pardo, in an eight round bout.
On January 21, at the Club Atletico San Martín, in Mendoza,
Argentina, in a 10-round bout, featherweight Yesica Patricia
Marcos will be fighting Ivonne Anahi Cordoba.
On the undercard, newcomer female boxer Daiana Laura
Marin will fight four rounds with an unknown opponent at
this time.
On January 22, there are several women's bouts around the
world that include the following: in Levallois-Perret,
France, veteran female boxer Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer will
fight Nadege Szikora in a 10-round WIBF bantamweight
title bout; at the Crowne Plaza, in Albany, New York, in what
should be a very interesting matchup, featherweight Jackie
Trivilino will fight Karen Dulin in a six round bout.
In a second female bout on that same card, Sarah Kuhn vs.
Cassandra Lindsey, four rounds; and in Hamilton, New
Jersey, at the Hamilton Manor,
Olivia Fonseca
will face Lyneshia Jefferson, pro debut, four rounds,
Junior middleweight; in more boxing action in Uruguay this
month, super featherweight Paola Ibarra is scheduled on
the card, no opponent has been named; and in a televised
bout, in Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico,
Ana Marie
Torres
will fight Naoko Yamaguchi, 10 rounds, for the WBC/WBA
titles, and in another title bout, Irma Sanchez vs.
Katia Gutierrez, 10 rounds, for the vacant IBF female light
flyweight title.
To finish out the end of the month on January 29, in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, Yesica Bopp will face a TBD opponent in
a 10 round bout for the WBA/WBO junior flyweight titles. Also
there is one four round bout between Linda Lecca vs.
Marisa Nunez.
On another card at the Shiprock High School, in Shiprock, New
Mexico, there are three women's bouts featuring Thaddine
Johnson vs TBD, Keisher McLeod Wells vs. TBD, and
Brittney Hadley vs. TBD.
In more boxing action on January 29th, in a very good matchup,
at the Turning Stone Casino, in Verona, New York, super
featherweight
Amanda
Serrano will fight
Ela Nunez
in a six round bout. This should be a barnburner on this card.
Both boxers are from New York.
And LASTLY, on this same date, at the Mulungushi Conference
Centre, in Lusaka, Zambia,
Esther Phiri
(Zambia) will face Leli Luz Flores (Colombia), for the
WIBO/WIBA Junior Welterweight Titles, in 10 rounds.
