(SEPT 17) Kaliesha “Wild
Wild” West is about to find herself center ring at the Staples
Center in Los Angeles, California, on the under card of Shane
Mosley vs. Sergio Mora. That is an exciting spot to be in for
the young fighter.
“This is such an amazing opportunity for us. I know there are
people that don’t like this match, but I don’t underestimate
Angel Gladney. I am sure that this opportunity means as much to
her as it does to me. And I am also sure, like me, that she is
doing everything she can in training to prepare for this fight.
This fight is important. We are on the under card of a major
promotion at the Staple Center in Los Angeles fighting for a
title! It is history in the making. It is my dream come true. I
have waited a long time for this opportunity and it is finally
here. I am grateful that Golden Boy Promotions chose me. I know
I am a Champion….and I have worked hard for this.”
Kaliesha’s father and trainer Juan West knows that this is his
daughter’s dream in the making. “Kaliesha works hard. I believe
in her, not just because she is my daughter but because she puts
the work in. Everyday she is in the gym, she is there polishing
her skills, and she is skilled. This is Kaliesha’s time and it
is the right place. She will go on to do greater things in this
sport from here.”
Kaliesha is a student of the game and it is very clear that
boxing is her passion. She is inspiring to watch. With every
ounce of her being she wants to get it right. The relationship
between Trainer and fighter is tight. The relationship between
father and daughter is tighter. This relationship is the best I
have seen in this business. Juan West is able to mix the tense
regiment of training with a healthy dose of humor and produce a
balanced and productive training program. He has taught Kaliesha
what commitment is and he knows and respects that she is a grown
woman. She on the other hand does not seem to mind being a
daddy’s girl….but is well versed in the business of this sport.
There is a trust that most would envy and a deep abiding love
from her stable mates. “I love her said Kassim Ouma as he kissed
her cheek, tell that to the people.” Sindy Amador, who will soon
make her own pro-debut, called Kaliesha “inspiring.”
So like it or not, when Kaliesha West enters the ring on
Saturday September 18th against Angel Gladney, something
electrifying will no doubt take place and someone is going to
get zapped!
