(MAY 30) 2009 was a roller coaster for me in regards to boxing. I had several fights scheduled and almost all of them were pulled. But that seems to be a common story in boxing it seems and difficult as it is, it feels like I'm finally starting to get used to it. I realize everyone in this game is looking out for number one. Big, solid records are good for promotion, I get it, but this sport is having the life sucked right out of it and sitting around waiting for the “perfect fight” almost (almost) makes me wish I was still in amateur boxing sometimes, where every fight, win or lose, is good for you.

I used to wonder why some female boxers were stepping up so soon in their careers and taking the big fights early on. Now I'm starting to understand. If you want that sure thing win, you're going to have to sit around stale for a year to get it. I had two fights that went through last year and they were both to the very tough Tammy Johnson. She took both fights on short notice, replacing canceling opponents on both occasions. She is a perfect example of a female warrior and is my inspiration for training this year.

I want 2010 to be my best year in boxing. In January I was lucky to receive generous sponsorship and support from my employers at Thunderbird Show Park which helped boost my training time. After an injury setback, I made some tough decisions and started training under the highly decorated Tony Pep in New Westminster. It was a personal change I needed to make, but still have all the respect in the world for my former trainer Dave, who worked hard to see me through to success and taught me to love and respect this sometimes heartbreaking sport. Change is usually a pretty terrifying thing for me, but my eyes have been opened to a whole new aspect of boxing. Tony's a very creative trainer and I'm excited to get back in the ring and put some new tricks to the test. Over the past two years since turning pro, I feel I have become a well rounded and confident boxer and hope this year brings great opportunities. I'm going for it!
