(MAY 15) On Friday May 14th,
Golden Boy Promotions and Star Boxing presented some fine boxing
talent at the beautiful Historic Paradise Theatre.yes( Left)
In an action packed Co-Main
Event, Lightweight Mike Perez took on Francisco Reyes for 6
scheduled rounds. Fast hands for both fighters in the first
three rounds, but Perez scored many solid rights to the head
causing a knockdown in the second and opening a blood gusher
above Reyes’s left eye in the third. And then, despite Reyes
keeping his hands too low and taking hits, he hung tough and
came back strong. (Special note and commendation: I have no idea
how his cut-man stopped the bleeding, and for the rest of the
fight.) For the last 3 rounds of heavy trading and a lot of
heart, Reyes scored well with uppercuts, but Perez continued to
score solid with his right for a win by Unanimous Decision.
For the Main Event, Lightweight
Adrien Broner defeated Rafael Lora with an “End of First Round
TKO” of a scheduled 10 round fight.
Junior Featherweight Raul Lopez
squared off against Daniel Aquino for 4 rounds. One judge called
it even, but overall, Aquino got the better end of trades in the
1st round, set up his punches nicely with left jabs in the 2nd,
scored better with volleys to the head and body in the 3rd and
connected with heavy hooks in the 4th for a not-even-close
“Majority Decision” win.
Super Middleweight
Shqiprim Muriqi took on Rondu Campbell in a scheduled 4 round
bout. Muriqi scored better with his unorthodox style throughout
the match, landing some heavy head shots in the 4th and winning
by Unanimous Decision.
Bronx girl Maureen Shea squared off against Norma Faris for a
scheduled 6 round Junior Lightweight match-up. For a moving-well
in-the-zone Maureen, this was a practice bout as she dominated
the fight scoring to her opponent’s head and body until the
referee stopped the match 1:59 into the 3rd round.
Cruiserweight Ahmed Samir
defeated John Douglas in a 6 rounder; load-up, wind-up
sloppy-jalopy who knows what.
