(FEB 24) On February 20, 2010, at
Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo, Japan, challenger Naoko Yamaguchi won by
TKO in round 9 (1:55) over champion Rie Fujimoto to capture the OPBF
super-flyweight title.
Fujimoto failed in her first
defense of the title. Naoko Yamaguchi survived a crisis of
having fallen to the canvas once in the round four by Fujimoto's
one-two. The OPBF is an organization that is affiliated to the
WBC. At the end of the round four, Fujimoto was ahead on the
scorecards.
Upon resumption of
the fight, Yamaguchi strove to oppose Rie Fujimoto. From round
six, Yamaguchi pressed the OPBF champion by sharp left hand
shots to the face and powerful right shots to the liver.
At the end of the round seven, Yamaguchi was then ahead with the
judges. The non-stop action continued. Finally the referee
stopped the fight at the end of the round nine when Fujimoto
became groggy by a powerful right hand straight of Naoko
Yamaguchi. Photos and story by Samart
