(SEPT 21) Katie Taylor and the Irish
team are due to arrive home via Budapest (Malev airlines) through
Dublin Airport tonight (Monday, September 21st) at 9pm. All
media are invited to attend this evenings homecoming.
Taylor set a new standard for international amateur boxing on Sunday
last when she claimed her 4th European title on the trot without
conceding a single point in Nikolaev City, Ukraine.
In her three bouts to lightweight gold, Taylor, the current AIBA
World champion and AIBA 2008 World female boxer of the year, scored
23 points.
Dublin middleweight Sinead Kavanagh also impressed, only losing out
by a single point in the preliminary rounds of her first major
international tournament.
Russia dominated the Championships, taking home four gold and one
silver.
Russian featherweight Sofia Ochigava received the boxer of the
tournament award.
