(AUG 24) The women’s Top fighter
Pound for Pound Holly Holm is excited to be fighting outside of her
hometown of Albuquerque, NM albeit 130 north to Las Vegas, NM, but
it is a chance for Holm to give others a chance to see her fight.
”I’m excited to fight in Las Vegas, I know I have been treated great
at Isleta, but I know the fans here are true hard core boxing fans
and its going to be great to fight in front of them.”
Holm, who has won world titles in three different weight classes,
started boxing in 2002 with a 3rd TKO over Martha Deitchman. Holm
reeled off a 7-0-1 record before signing with Promoter Lenny
Fresquez, who helped sky rocket Holm to the top of Women’s boxing.
Holm (24-1-3) captured her first
title against her current opponent Teri Blair, a 10 rd unanimous
decision for the IBA Welterweight title. It was three fights
later that Holm hit the lottery when she took on a legend in
Christy Martin. The fight wasn’t even close as Holm won every
round in dismantling Martin.
Fresquez wasted little time getting Holm more recognition when
he signed Holm to fight Mia St. John; once again Holm dominated
another top name in female boxing in which she defended her IBA
crown. Her efforts earned her The Ring Magazine’s Female Fighter
of the Year for 2006.
In 2007 Holm headlined the first All-Women’s televised fight
card when she defeated Ann Marie Saccurato to win the WIBA, WBC,
WBA and IFBA Welterweight titles in one night.
Once again Holm had another great year in 2008, highlighted with
a Super-fight with unbeaten Mary Jo Sanders, and although Holm
went up in weight to 154, she easily defeated Sanders at Isleta
Casino in winning the IFBA Jr. Middleweight.
The two would go at it again four months later, this time in
Sanders home town of Auburn Hills, Michigan, although the fight
was declared a draw most felt Holm was robbed in not getting the
decision.
Again Holm was named Ring Magazine’s Fighter of the Year in
2008.
Holm now looks to once again defeat Blair in tonight’s title
fight. Holm is not taking her first win over Blair as a way take
it easy with confidence. She sees a dangerous fighter in Blair.
”I know her record (11-13) is deceiving, she has fought the top
women’s fighter in the world, Teri isn’t one of these fighters
that has a built up record, she can fight and has power, power I
need to be ready for.”
In fighting Blair, Holm knows she has to be on her game, if she
is to be victorious
”I expect to win, but I expect Blair to be better then the first
time we fight, its going to be a good night for the crowd to see
two warriors going at it and putting on a great show.”
