(JULY 29) WBAN received a press
release from Team Lisa Brown in regards to controversial Boxing
Promoter Boxu Potts failing to pay World Champion Lisa Brown.
The stated the following:
On March 7, 2009, Lisa “Bad News” Brown returned to her native
Trinidad putting her multiple world titles (IFBA -/IWBF -NABC) on
the line to fight for the vacant WIBA Jr. Featherweight title. Brown
won the fight by TKO in the 3rd round over Dominican, Maribel
Santana. The celebration was short lived. Promoter Boxu Potts failed
to pay Brown the full purse after the fight and still owes Lisa
$4,500 U.S. as outlined in the contract. That fight was over five
months ago and Potts still claims the money is coming. Potts has
another card scheduled for July 31st in Chaguanas, Trinidad. This
raises questions about the relationship with Potts, the Ministry,
and the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board.
The Brown/Santana fight was the feature attraction of a five-bout
all-female card put on by Boxu Potts and Unified Promoters Boxing at
the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. The
event, attended by the former Culture and Gender Affairs Minister
Joan Yuille Williams, was to commemorate International Women’s Day
and to honor the memory of the late Jizelle Salandy, Trindiad and
Tobago’s most decorated female fighter who was killed in a car
accident in January of 2009. Lisa Brown was proud and honored to
return home as a champion and showcase her talents in front of a
supportive hometown crowd. She delivered and won the fight. It is
Boxu Potts who has failed to deliver the full payment of Lisa “Bad
News” Brown’s purse.
