(MAY 15) Women’s boxing in Colorado
is finally getting its own venue in which to shine. A-1 Boxing and
Fitness in Aurora will showcase female boxing on June 27. Currently
there are 15 bouts scheduled and with two months left until fight
night, more are expected.
Boxing is currently the only Olympic sport without a women’s
counterpart but the women of Colorado are doing their part to
alleviate that situation. Therefore, part of the night’s proceeds
will go to LetThemBox.org.
This organization was formed to
aid in the effort to add women’s boxing to the 2012 Olympics.
The remainder of the proceeds will benefit a local organization,
A-FightingChance.org. This supports 15-18 year olds with prior
criminal infractions and engages them in rigorous physical
activity with the ultimate goal of competing in a certified
boxing event.
The participants hope that this event generates interest in
women’s boxing and sparks more interest for similar events in
the near future.
