(MAR 5) Augusta, Georgia to host the
7th Annual Ringside/COMCAST Augusta International Junior Boys/ Girls
Summer Boxing Classic, presented by COMCAST. Tom Moraetes, the
Augusta Boxing Club along with the City of Augusta and the Augusta
Recreation and Parks Department have combined efforts to host this
tournament June 25-27, 2009 at the May Park Community Center 622 4th
Street. With the support from the largest supplier in boxing
equipment in the world, Ringside, Inc. and the additional
sponsorship from COMCAST, PCS Nitrogen, Dr Robert Gambrell and
Sports Medicine Associates of Augusta, Pollack Company, Georgia
Chiropractic and Wellness Center and the Clarion Suites Inn of
Augusta. The Augusta Boxing Club looks to see hundreds of young
boxers from all across the country participating again this year.
In the past the tournament was a “National” Championship with
entries from over 30 states each year. With the addition of the
Canadian Jr. Boxers, this year will be an International
Championship. Entries from other countries are also being considered
for entry.
Tom Moraetes tells us, “This tournament was a great success
for the past six years and we appreciate the opportunity for young
athletes to show their skills and what better place than Augusta”.
Tom Beck, Director of the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department
has continually supported the sport of amateur boxing and sees this
as “a great opportunity for our youth”. Bill Botham of COMCST says
“we are proud of our commitment and involvement with the amateur
youth boxing program here in Augusta and look forward to another
great tournament in June”.
John Brown, Owner and Chief Executive of Ringside, Inc. stated “The
City of Augusta has become the home for this outstanding junior
tournament and we are glad that Ringside can lend a hand. Tom
Moraetes and Tom Beck have made this one of the premier tournaments
of the year. This tournament has brought in over 200 athletes,
coaches, officials and family members each of the past six years
resulting in an economic impact of over $200,000 each year.”
The tournament is open to boys and girls age’s 9 through 16.
Competition will take place at 7:00 p.m. each day and tickets will
be available at the door. All pre-registration is being handled by
Ringside Inc. -1-877-4boxing. In addition, Ringside Inc will be
making the applications available from their web site at
ringside.com in the near future. On site registration, weigh-ins and
physicals will be held at the Clarion Suites Inn of Augusta on
Wednesday, June 24th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
