(DEC 30) On Friday night at the Red
Robinson Show Theatre, in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, on
the card, "Rumble in the Red", on the undercard, featherweight
Rochelle Okoye, making her pro debut, of New Westminster, B.C, won a
four-round unanimous decision over Priscilla Trompowsky, Toronto,
Canada. Final judges scores, 39-37, 39-37, 39-35.
Okoye, 23 years old, has an extremely interesting background. She is
a former amateur gymnast, who was a member of the Great Britain
gymnastic team. She was a three-time national gymnastic champion in
the 1990’s. Okoye was on the edge of trying out for the Olympics in
2000, but was not old enough due to a rule change, which would have
made her wait until 2004 to be considered in the sport to
participate. Okoye is also an aspiring model.
WBAN predicts that you will probably be eeing more from Okoye, as
she has the potential to be a rising star in the sport. Okoye
was a well-disciplined athlete in gymnastics, and of what we have
read about her so far, it looks like she is bringing that skill to
boxing!
