(AUG 22) WIBF Minimum weight world
Champion Sarah Goodson on this day of 8/22/08 has just decided to
announce her retirement from the sport of boxing, which has been
apart of her life since June 1999.
She has been thinking about this day
since the fight in Germany and told me this morning while we were
having breakfast before going to her annual doctor appointment, that
between raising our two kids and working her demanding job, it is
now time to step down and say good bye. Sarah said her biggest
regrets are that she did not get to defend her WIBF title in her
home country of the Philippines or on the undercard of Filipino
Legend Manny Pacquiao.
She thinks that would have made a great close out on a great and fun
career. Sarah still plans on helping with the Slug Out Autism fight
nights to bring awareness to the world about this dreadful epidemic
that has effected her life so much since both of our children Sergio
and Sean were diagnosed with it in the last few years.
When it came to other big fights that
people wanted to see that will now never happen, she said it is just
sad that over almost 10 years she has been fighting that all the
money has not increased enough to pay for babysitters and all the
other stuff she would have to pay just to come close to being
prepared for a big fight! But Sarah still loved making history by
being the 1st Pinay born from her country to win a world title but
is now ready to let the younger fighters like Ana Julaton and
Gretchen Abaniel go even further and make women's boxing even bigger
for the women from the Philippines and around the world!
