Latest News: European Union Championships
by Bernard O'Neill
August 6, 2008

(AUG 6) Kelly Harrington bowed out of the EU Championships in Liverpool last night after she was beaten 10-6 by Romanian light welterweight Larisa Rosu.

Harrington had been hoping to join Debbie Rogers and Katie Taylor in the last four, thus guaranteeing herself at least bronze.

But despite a brave showing from the Irish woman at the Greenpark Sports Arena, it was Rosu that advanced.

Light flyweight Debbie Rogers got Ireland's EU Championships campaign off to a positive start with an impressive 10-6 win over Sandra Silva of Portugal on Monday.

Rogers, who is now guaranteed at least bronze, advances to meet Virginie Nave of France in tomorrow evenings semi final.

Meanwhile, Lightweight Katie Taylor, the reigning World and European champion, received a bye straight into the last four where she will box Sandra Kruk of Poland on Thursday, not Wednesday as originally reported.
