(MAY 26) Lucia Morelli (9-0-0) will get
a rare opportunity to show her craft at the Universum Card in
Dusseldorf next Saturday. Italian born Morelli fights out of
Offenburg in south Germany, a short distance from Karlsruhe, the
home town of Germany's retired female boxing icon Regina Halmich.
Offenburg is also close to France,
and Lucia has benefitted from a lot of sparring with top class
French boxers like Nadia Hokmi, Anne-Sophie Mathis, Myriam Chomaz
and others. However, the biggest problem for Morelli and her trainer
Andreas Preuss, has been the lack of opportunity to get fights,
despite the popularity of women's boxing in Germany.
Morelli is very pleased to be part of
an Universum Event for the second time in her career. She will be
facing Borislava Goranova (3-23-0) of Bulgaria. Goranova made her
debut in September 2000, and before she is judged too harshly on her
less than flattering record, it should be mentioned, that she has
fought 21 of 26 fights in UK, Germany, Poland and France against
names like Jane Couch (4 times), Myriam Lamare, Agnieszka Rylik,
Anne Sophie Mathis (3 times), Natascha Ragosina, Heidi Hartmann and
Cecilia Brækhus and only been stopped 3 times. Lucia Morelli also
appears on her long list of former opponents. The two met in
November 2006, resulting in a 6 round unanimous decision in favour
of Morelli.
