Delgado Ready to Return
By Ketal Patel
May 26, 2008

(MAY 26) When Adriana Delgado returns to the ring this coming Friday, against Jessica Barber in Ignacio, Colorado, she will try to show the doubters that she is back and she has a lot left.   Delgado has already shown her trainers that there is no doubt she means business--Danny Romero Sr., and his son former two-time world champion Danny Romero Jr.,  who took Delgado into their Hideout Boxing Club stable this past November.

Romero Sr.,  is no stranger to the boxing scene, having trained his son to two world titles and former world champion Johnny Tapia when he was an amateur. Romero Sr.,  feels Delgado will bring him another world champion to the Hideout Gym soon.

"I wish I had 10 Adriana's, she is the hardest worker in the gym!",  says Romero Jr. "I'm not just saying that, it's the truth".

Both Romeros' in the past never worked with women boxers, coming from the old school of training, but Delgado and manager Andy Rivera came to the Hideout just for Delgado to do a workout, an hour later, Romero Jr. called Rivera and said,  "Keep bringing her, she is something special."

Special enough that when the New Mexico's largest paper came to do a recent article on Delgado and the Romeros', the sports writer asked Danny Sr.,  "How come you let a women come to the hideout?" Sr. replied,  "just watch for ten minutes and you'll see." After the ten minutes the reporter was shocked at what he saw.

Albuquerque has one standout in women's boxing in Undisputed welterweight champion Holly Holm, and Delgado wants to keep it going with her own career. "I was the IFBA Bantamweight champion but I needed to finish my schooling and get my career going (Delgado works for the County Fire Department) now I want to regain a world title and continue to show New Mexico has great women fighters", says Delgado.

Delgado 10-2-1, will face the unbeaten Jennifer Barber, 6-0, and knows it is going to be a tough fight. "In women's boxing its tough to get matched up and Jessica and I know if we are going to be the best we have to fight the best".
