Katie Taylor has won a Texaco sports
award for 2007 it has been announced. It has been another incredible
season for the 21 year old Bray woman who won her third European
lightweight title in a row in Denmark in October under a year after
she claimed a World 60Kg title in New Delhi India.
In addition, Taylor is ranked number one in the World and Europe,
and number one in the World and Europe in the pound-for-pound ABA
rankings.
Nine other amateur and professional sports stars have also received
a Texaco award for 2007. The awards will be presented at the
O'Reilly Hall, University College Dublin on December 12th next.
According to her dad and coach Peter Taylor, Katie is thrilled to
accept the prestigious 2007 Texaco award for boxing.
He said: "Katie is very proud to accept this award and it is a great
achievement for the Bray Boxing Club. It has been a fantastic year
for her and she would like to thank everyone for all their support."
Taylor, who is a member of the Irish Amateur Boxing Associations
High Performance Unit, could box in an exhibition bout at the 2008
National Senior Championships which will be held over four days at
the National Stadium in Dublin beginning on January 8th.
The World and European champion is also being lined up to box in an
international meeting in Ireland in February.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Texaco Awards which are
sponsored by USA oil company Chevron.
