(NOV 10) Former IFBA Jr. Flyweight World
Champion, Kim "FIREBALL" Messer, arrived in South Korea yesterday to
begin preparations for upcoming world title matches
scheduled for tonight and November 17, 2007.
Only this time Kim will begin a new role in her professional boxing
career as the newest IFBA Representative, responsible for overseeing
fight cards which are sanctioned by the IFBA. "This is going to take
some getting used to! Someone will have to remind me to stay outside
the
ropes," laughed Messer. "I'm proud to represent the IFBA. Of course
I'd rather be fighting, but this is the next best thing. I'm
especially excited to begin my IFBA responsibilities in South Korea,
where I was born, and where I later won my World Boxing Title in
August of 2000.
During her trip Kim will also visit her home orphanage in JeCheon.
There are around 80 children from young infants to teenagers who
live at the White Children's Home. These children will never have
the opportunity to be adopted to a loving family, like Kim was. They
are being well taken
care of by Ms. White, Kim's original caretaker, and the others who
tend to their daily needs and prepare them to live on their own when
they must leave the home.
Kim has become a loyal advocate in the US for this mission-of-mercy
which literally saved her life when, as a child thought to be around
3 years old, she was found wondering alone in a busy train station.
At Ring Sports United, Bellevue, Washington, (Kim & Mark
Messer's Boxing, Kickboxing & Jiu-Jitsu Club), members rally to show
support by contributing much needed supplies and financial
contributions to send with Kim. "I am
touched by their generosity. The boxing community, (especially at
RSU!) really knows how to step up to a challenge.".
