(OCT 8) Bettina Völker travels to Israel
to fight local girl Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer for the WIBF Super
Flyweight Title on 27th October. Völker's last action was in May
this year, when she went to Italy to challenge Simona Galassi for
the European Flyweight Title. A fight she lost by stoppage in the
10th round, after putting up a very brave fight against the European
Champion and former triple Amateur World Champion. Bettina Völker,
who took the Shmoulefeld fight at short notice, told WBAN, that she
is excited as well as grateful for getting the opportunity to fight
for the WIBF title. She knows, that she will be in for a tough
fight, against the very skilled Shmoulefeld, who will be on her home
turf this time.
Hagar Shmoulefeld's last ring appearance in April this year was also
at home town fight. It was against Natascha Guthier of Germany, and
she won the WIBF Intercontinental Super Flyweight belt by UD.
Smoulefeld's next fight after 27th October, will be one for the
history books. She will be the last to fight the long reigning queen
of women's boxing in Germany, Regina Halmich. Halmich has announced
her retirement after this fight, but has made it clear, that she
wants to leave boxing as a World Champion. So a loss in her last
fight might make her return to the ring. This bout will take place
in Halmich's home town of Karlsruhe - incidentally also Völker's
home town - on 30th November.
