Watsonville Hosts Carina Moreno Day

|
(JUN 20) Yesterday, on June 19th, the
City of Watsonville, California, presented Carina Moreno Day.
The event at Watsonville City Hall honored the 25-year-old fighter,
whose accomplishments include winning the WBC strawweight world
title on May 17 at Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore,
California. Attendees included City of Watsonville officials,
Moreno's manager/ trainer Rick Noble, and her family and friends.
Moreno resides and trains in Watsonville, a small coastal town in
central California.
Moreno was recognized for her success in amateur and professional
boxing levels. After earning an amateur record of 36-2, her current
professional record is 13-1 with 4 KO's. In addition to her recent
WBC world title, she was named NABF Female Fighter of the Year, and
captured the NABF light flyweight crown in 2006. She was named
WBAN's June 2007 Fighter of the Month.
Moreno has been Regina Halmich's sparring partner twice in Germany,
and is hopeful of fighting Halmich. Moreno is scheduled to fight in
Lemoore on September 27 against a top-ten world-ranked opponent.[Note: In the local news, it has been
reported that Moreno is the first world champion to come out of
Watsonville.]
