Press Release: Fiorentino vs. Serrano
May 31, 2007

Troy, N.Y. May 31, 2007 – Two-time world champion Missy “Fury” Fiorentino (15-1, 6 KOs) will face undefeated contender Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano (14-0-1, 7 KOs) for the NABF Super Featherweight Championship at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy, N.Y., on Saturday July 7th.

Fiorentino, who held both the IWBF featherweight and lightweight belts, will try to earn a title at a third weight class. Ranked number one by both the WBC and WBA, her only loss was a controversial 2004 decision in Japan to Emiko Raika (16-2-1, 6 KOs) in a challenge for the WIBA Featherweight title. A resident of Cranston, R.I., Fiorentino is trained by Peter Manfredo, Sr. and is a stable mate of his son, Contender TV star Peter Manfredo, Jr. (27-4, 13 KOs).

Serrano, Brooklyn, N.Y., is ranked third in the WBA and fifth in the WBC and will fight in her second title challenge. In 2006, she fought a highly entertaining draw with Californian Rhonda Luna (12-0-1, 7 KOs) for the WIBA Featherweight Championship at Turning Stone Casino in Central New York.
“I am thrilled to have such a high quality fight with world class female fighters headlining this card,” said Lisa Elovich, promoter of the event. “We plan on taking our shows to an even higher level this year. This will be a bout that no true boxing fan will want to miss. Both of these women are highly skilled and aggressive fighters. The fans are in for a real treat.”

The Independence Week boxing card also will feature the return of hometown favorite heavyweight Shannon Miller (14-3, 8 KOs), who will enter the ring to fight at home in Troy for the first time in 10 years. Undefeated prospect Wayland Willingham (11-0, 6 KOs), a native of Albany, N.Y., also will be featured and young fighters from around New York will fight competitive bouts on the undercard.

The holiday event at Joe Bruno Stadium is the first outdoor fight card in the Capital Region in nearly a decade. Joe Bruno stadium is a state-of-the-art professional baseball facility and home of the Tri-City ValleyCats, Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros. The venue features 4,500 permanent seats, 10 luxury suites, and an open air concourse designed to give every seat a great view of the field and an intimate ballpark feel.
