Ana María wins convincingly in the Dominican Republic
Translated by Ewan Whyte
April 17, 2007

The WBC super flyweight champion, Ana María Torres, did justice to her sobriquet, "The Warrior", when she defeated the dangerous Dahianna Santana by a wide margin on all 3 cards in front of a sell-out crowd in the Coliseo Carlos “Teo” Cruz in Santo Domingo (DR).

The Mexican fighter has had to put up with all kinds of pressure since she arrived here – not to mention the imposition of two judges from the Dominican Republic (Pedro Hernández y Ramón Valdez) - but at the end of the day, the truth was respected and Torres received her just reward.

Santana confirmed that she is the best of the local boxers as she stood up to the heavy artillery of the Mexican, although on three separate occasions it looked like she was about to visit the canvas

Spurred on by more than 7,000 of her compatriots, who never stopped shouting, Santana tried to box from a distance. Nevertheless, the strength, determination and superb physical condition of the champion allowed her to maintain a comfortable dominance throughout the ten rounds.

At the end of the fight, the Dominican fans recognized the superiority of the Mexican fighter and gave her a warm ovation.
