Weekend Results in Women’s Boxing

(MAR 11) On Friday,  March 9th,  in Asunción, Paraguay, super flyweight María José Nuñez Anchorena, 114¾, won by a first round TKO over Nomia Rodriguez de Oliveira,114¾, in a scheduled four round bout.  The fight was stopped at 1:33 seconds, after Oliveira was down three times.

At the Soaring Eagle Casino, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, two women boxers made their pro debuts.  Junior flyweight Raechel Denevan, stopped Tara Davis in the second round of a scheduled four rounder on the undercard. 

Also at the Performing Arts Center, Oxnard, California, Hometown boxer, lightweights Crystal Morales pulled off a split decision over long-time veteran Gloria Ramirez, by a six-round unanimous decision.  Final judges scores were 46-58, 58-56 for Morales, and 58-56 for Ramirez. 

On March 10th, at the Santa Ana Star Casino, in Bernalillo, New Mexico, in another set of pro debuters, strawweights Sonya Gurule, 104, won a four-round split decision over Suzanna Garvin, 105.  Final judges scores were 37-39, 37-39 for Gurule, and 39-37 for Garvin.

Lastly, In Nairobi, Kenya, at the Nyayo National Stadium, Kenyan Conjestina Achieng won a non-title fight against Tanzanian Monica Mwakasanga at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi City. Achieng stopped Mwakasanga in the fifth round by TKO.
