the World this Weekend!

(FEB 18) There were quite of few results with women's boxing this weekend, and WBAN will list this weekend's boxing action! 

On Friday,  February 16th,  In Germany, WBA Flyweight World Championship Fight between Carolina Alvarez, 111½, of Venezuela and Armenian born Susianna Kentikian, 112,  ended with a TKO in favor of Kentikian.   In Genf, Switzerland, Flyweight Zhang Xi Yan, 110¼, won a four-round unanimous decision over Kristina Rozhkova, 114¾. Judges scores were 40-37 on all score cards.  

 At the Playboy Mansion, in Beverly Hills, California, Bantamweight Sharon Gaines won a four-round split decision over Heather Donohue. In Miami, Oklahoma, Flyweight Stephanie Dobbs had a no decision against Nikki Verbeck in the second round of a scheduled six rounder.

In  Buenos Aires, Argentina, Super Bantamweight Maria del Carmen Montiel, 118½, won a four-round unanimous decision over Marta Maldonado, 116½. Final judges:  39-38½, 40-38, and 40-37.  In Ferntree Gully Melbourne,  Australia, Bantamweight Michelle Preston, pro debut,  won a six-rounder by points over Georgia Keady.

On Saturday, February 17, 2007, in  Magdeburg, Germany,  Natascha Ragosina, of Germany, stopped Yahaira Hernandez,  1:08 seconds, into the seventh round of a scheduled ten round bout, where the two were battling for the WIBF / GBU super middleweight title.  

According to news reports, Hernandez was knocked down in the sixth, and two times in the seventh.  After the second knockdown, the referee stopped the fight.  In New York, NY Eileen Olszewski, 114¾, won a six-round split decision over Noriko Kariya, 116¾. The final judges scores were 58-56, 56-58, and 54-60.
