(DEC 8) This week WBAN had received a reliable insider scoop that Mary Elizabeth Ortega would be going to Germany to fight Regina Halmich in a 10-round title bout in January of 2007.

We learned earlier today by another reliable source that Ortega was currently suspended by the Nevada Boxing Commission, for testing positive for a substance not allowed in boxing.  We were told by this source that it was steroids, but the commission would not confirm the specific substance.

When speaking with the Commission we were also told that Ortega was suspended on November 6th, and would remain suspended until April 30, 2007.  She will also need to pay a $1,000 fine.

The commission said that she will need to appear before the commission board to get re-licensed.  Upon learning about this unfortunate and disappointing news, we removed our earlier story about Ortega fighting Halmich. 

We have also attempted to call Ortega by phone, but there was no answer, and we have left a message, to have her contact us in regards  to this latest news.
