(NOV 19) Merced Nunez quickly dismantled
Danielle Lanford Saturday night at the
Northern Lights Casino in Anacortes, Washington. Nunez, whose only
loss is to Melissa Hernandez, is a hard hitting junior lightweight
who since that loss has been much more aggressive than her
opponents.
Before Lanford to reach the middle of the ring to answer the opening
bell, Nunez had landed a left jab and was loading her right. Lanford
tried to step back, but Nunez would have none of that as she stayed
within arm's length, popping Lanford's head back time after time.
The fight looked to be over less than a minute in to the round, when
Nunez pinned Lanford on the ropes and landed lefts and rights to
Lanford's chin. Lanford somehow snuck away from the barrage, but
only momentarily.
Nunez caught up with Lanford on the far
side of the ring and after a few teeth jarring punches, Lanford
realized there would be no escape. She tried though. When Lanford
covered her head, Nunez threw punches to the body, and then Lanford
dropped her elbows and Nunez saw the target on the chin again.
As the seconds ticked down to end the opening round, Lanford's
cornermen were desperately waving a towel, asking that the carnage
end. It did, at 1:59.
Now Nunez finds herself in that position where, after two KO wins,
she may not get the 'easy' opponent. However, if she continues to
improve, it may not matter.
