Stella
Nijhof is on a mission, but at 35, time is of the
essence. She won 8 national amateur championships and 4 New
York Golden Gloves titles, but has been a pro for less than a
year. She plans to make up for lost time as she takes a giant
step to California as she challenges teenage sensation
Kaliesha West on November
18th, in Monterey.
Stella Nijhof has been on top
of the amateur bantamweight
class for years, but now steps up to punch for pay. A bartender
at a trendy Big Apple hot spot, Stella has experience in life
and in the squared circle that West does not. In fact,
Nijhof has fought around the
globe including Turkey where she teamed with
Carina
Moreno representing US in
International competition.
Stella will be reunited in
Monterey with her teammate Moreno,
who has fought 5 times in the historic town in central
California for the same promoter. The PAL and Pan Am
championships Stella won earlier in this decade will serve her
well as a pro, but West is one of the best at 118 pounds.
Finding fights are difficult for all women boxers it seems, but
especially when it is well known how talented and dangerous
Nijhof can be.
At 1-0-1 in her early career,
Stella has yet to fight in her home state of New York. She
fought earlier this year in California out of her weight class
to get pro rounds. Her matchup
with Kaliesha West (4-0
Moreno Valley) is at the
ideal bantamweight level for
both women at a neutral site. The 6 round semi-main event will
be staged at the Monterey Conference Center as part of THE RIOT
pro boxing series promoted by local media personality Jerry
Hoffman, owner of 12 Sports Productions. 6 bouts are on the
show, with Salinas' Jesus "Chuy"
Rodriguez colliding with Hector Saez
of Denver for the USBC Jr.
Welterweight title. Tickets
are available at 831-688-1604.
