Christy Martin still, arguably, the most
recognized name in the sport of Women's boxing, will return to the
ring on October 6 in a ten round, 140 pound bout with Angelica
Martinez at the Couer d'Alene Casino in Worley, ID. Martin's last
fight was a ten round loss to Holly Holm last September. Martinez,
with a record of 5-2-1, coming off a six round win in July over
Miriam Brakache, has fought Holm three times, gaining a draw in
Colorado in 2004 and dropping decisions, in 2003 and in June, in New
Mexico.
Asked about Martinez, Martin commented, "I saw tape of a couple of
rounds of her last fight and she's a busy fighter, she comes forward
and I certainly won't have to hunt for her in the ring." Asked about
her future plans, Martin stated, "I'd like to get back in the ring
before the end of the year and then maybe another bout in the first
quarter of 2007. After that we'll just see what presents itself."
