(AUG 6) Last night at the theater in
Madison Square Garden, Courtesy of Dibella entertainment and HBO
Sports, an exciting female bout took placed on the undercard of
Quartey-Forrest fight. You can say whatever you want to say about
Lou Dibella, but this is a promoter who believes in women boxing,
which is a good thing.
Noriko Kariya faced Michelle Herron in a
four round Bantamweight bout. In the first round both fighters
engaged in toe to toe action. Both fighters had there moments, bout
it was Kariya who appeared to get the better of the exchanges. In
Round two, perhaps sensing that Heron may have been capable of
hurting her, Kariya decided to stick and move.
She also scored effectively with her jab
and won the round easily. In the third round, Herron was able to
make an adjustment and engage Kariya to brawl. Herron was able to
score well on the inside and win round three.
More of the same action would follow in
round four with both fighter wrestling each other to the canvas.
After getting off the canvas both fighter resumed there toe to toe
action to end a very entertaining hard fought bout.
Official scores were 39-37 by all three
judges for Kariya. WBAN also scored the fight 39-37 for Kariya.
Kariya improves to 5-1-1 (1KO), while Heron drops to 1-4.
