Infinity female boxing is a unique
professional management boxing team that was established for the
sake of supporting female boxers by negotiating their fights in
terms of the right opponents in accordance to their experience.
Fighters whether male or female should have a honest management team
that will work for them and bring them up through the ranks the
correct way by getting them opponents that are in the realm of their
weigh class and experience.
The female fighters have a difficult road due to the weak structure
in regards to not observing weight class or experience of the female
fighters. Female fighters have fought two to three weigh classes
above their weigh which would never happen in male boxing.
Female boxing in the year 2006 has been still making its pro debut
because the big promoters have not opened the doors of opportunity
for females in the sport. Many promoters are not familiar with the
top female fighter because of their lack of experience not dealing
with the females on a daily basis like the male boxers.
In the history of females in any competitive sports whether it is
tennis, golf or boxing have struggled through many years not only to
be recognized as being legitimate athletes but to have opportunity
to display their athletic ability to the World.
Even though Title nine was put into law in the 1972 by the late
President Nixon. It opened up many opportunities for female athletes
that were in high school & collegiate sports that gave them the same
opportunity as their male counter part.
In 2006 The Olympic committee again shot down the female boxing
event thwarting opportunities for the women’s boxing Olympic
hopefuls. The amateur female boxers are skilled boxers with
extraordinary boxing technique that are waiting & waiting & waiting
to be accepted in the Olympic female boxing team.
Female boxing was brought to light by “The Coal Miner’s Daughter
Christy Martin when she fought Deidre Gogarty on the Mike Tyson vs.
Frank Bruno undercard @ the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in
1996. The Martin vs. Gogarty fight was televised on Pay Per View &
was seen across the World. The legendary fight between Martin &
Gogarty fight has inspired many of the female boxers to enter
professional boxing.
Martin made the cover Sports Illustrated Magazine after her fight
with Gogarty & was on numerous talk shows. Martin was signed by mega
promoter Don King and fought on all of King’s major cards under
cards. Martin has not under contract with King since early 2000 but
has stayed active.
It has been an up hill battle for women’s boxing it is not taken
seriously by some promoters who do not want to put female boxers on
their major under cards. That is par for the course in any
professional female sport, a never ending battle to be recognized as
a legitimate athlete. Female boxers in the past did not have amateur
background like their male counter part; unscrupulous gym urchin’s
managers/ trainers would give their female boxers a few weeks of
training and throw them into a Lion’s den. The fight looked more
like a cat fight than a boxing match giving fans and boxing
promoters the wrong image of the legitimate female boxer’s
abilities.
Many of these mismatches have given female boxing a black eye, and
it is still common practice. State Athletic Commissions in some
States close their eyes to the gross female boxing mismatches by not
taking in consideration a boxer’s experience & weight difference.
Female boxing needs to have structure starting with proper training
& of course having an amateur background.
Shelley Burton (L)
Infinity Boxing LLC management started with one female boxer Shelley
Burton who was a former Tough women Champion. Burton met with
manager Butch Gottlieb in 2003 in hopes that he would sign her to a
management contract. Mary Ann Owen who is Gottlieb’s companion and
partner was a little apprehensive to sign female fighters due to
lack of worthy opponents venues for them. Owen who is a retired
North Las Vegas Corrections Officer is also a boxing photographer &
has a very popular website Boxinginlasvegas.com.
Burton who is a Jr. Middleweight had no quit in her, she held a full
time job & trained several hours a day. Owen was impressed with
Burton’s fortitude and no quit attitude. Burton fought under
contract with Infinity Boxing on 10-03 2003 in Laughlin, Nevada
against Angie Poe, Burton won a four round split decision.
Burton fought on 11-18-2006 in Edmonton Albertan Canada for the
Women’s International Boxing Association Middleweight title against
an undefeated Laura Ramsey. Burton won the WIBA title in a unanimous
decision.
Owen expressed that the female fighters do not have to be told to
train or watch their weight, because they are so dedicated to their
sport.

five years and spent two years previously working in the boxing

Gottlieb said, ” The female boxers work harder than the men, they
have a difficult road to travel in regards to opportunity in getting
the right fights and being paid decent money.
