(JULY 4) Two young women from Berlin,
22-year-old Jasmin Oflas and 25-year-old Malina Perplies,
will be meeting at the Blue Box (Heinrich-Mann-Allee) in Potsdam
on the 14th July to decide which of them, if either
(“For both women,” warns Elite Box Promotion, “a win is
obligatory”), has a future in the sport. Afflicted by nerves,
Oflas could manage nothing more than a draw against Miroslava
Durinova of Slovakia in her first outing, whilst Perplies, who
also drew her first fight (against Natalie Grimmer), was
defeated on points by Hamburg’s Tatjana Dieckmann in her second.
None of these fights, however, was over more
than 4 rounds; and if the thinly-veiled threat of the promoters
that the door to a potentially lucrative career will be slammed
in the face of the defeated woman is to be taken at all
seriously, it must be hoped that they’ll give them something
more than eight minutes, this time, to show what they can do.
