(JUNE 9) When Jelena Mrdjenovich and Mia
St. John meet on the June 23rd, "Women of Mass Destruction"
card produced by "A Ring of Their Own," both bring different styles
into the ring but each expect the same result- victory, and to claim
the vacant WIBF lightweight title.
Mia St. John was present last June in Edmonton as a ringside color
commentator when Mrdjenovich engaged in a rousing toe to toe battle
with Layla McCarter and recognizes her opponent is,
"aggressive, talented and an offensive style fighter," but insists
her style will not alter for Mrdjenovich. "I am a mover and more of
a boxer," she claims, " And that will not change."
Mrdjenovich is working daily to improve on her skills, and takes
into account Mia’s long career and experience in the ring. Wisely
she and her team are not focusing on any one aspect of a certain
opponent but constantly training on the skills she’s already
perfected. "I know Mia comes to fight," Mrdjenovich says, "and this
should be a good fight." "A Ring of Their Own" promoter Arnie
Rosenthal agrees. "This is a classic crossroads confrontation. The
veteran star vs. the rising star. Mia's looking to go out on top and
Jelena's looking to inherit her thunder. It’s gonna be a great
fight," he predicts.
