She may be a grandmother – the younger
of her two children, Omar (18) and Yadira (17), recently gave birth
to a baby girl – but Gloria Ríos [4-3-2 (0 KOs)] of El Queso, who
will be disputing the Mexican Bantamweight and vacant NABF Super
Flyweight titles with Ana Marïa Torres of Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl at
the Nueva Atzacoalco sporting club on Saturday, has enough gas, she
tells us, to go fifteen rounds – which at today's prices, makes her
not simply rich but in the J. Howard Marshall II class in terms of
eligibility!
Four times thwarted by Delia López in her bid for the junior
flyweight title – though the two draws, she feels, should really
have been wins for her – the 34-year-old, whose tattoos hark back to
her days running with a girl gang, has trained hard, but dismisses
questions about strategy with a blasé (going on lackadaisical)
shrug: "I haven't seen her fight," she says of Torres [12-1-1
(8KOs)], who has twice been voted Mexican Boxer of the Year and whom
WBAN ranks 8th in the world. "I'll fight her whichever way she
wants."
