BRIDGEVILLE – (MAR 5) – At the Martial
Arts and Sports Complex, I got an opportunity to do a photo shoot,
with both local amateur woman boxer Tika Hemingway and another local
amateur talent – Ashlei Jaquay. Hemingway and Jaquay participated in
final preparation drills for their upcoming trip to Colorado
Springs, Colorado to compete in the National Amateur Open Boxing
Tournament, starting today, March 5th.
Both girls had completed what was a mini camp to prepare them for
this national tournament. They were putting on some finishing
touches, doing some sparring drills and exercises with one another,
under the direction of AMA president, Faith Wolfley.
Being that these young ladies will be the only female boxers
representing the AMA in the national competition, they have
developed a close bond, in support of one another.
The funny thing about this bond of sisterhood is that since
Hemingway fought and won a decision over Ashlei’s sister, Robynlee,
also a former amateur champion, now serving in the military, one
might think that there would be some ‘bad blood’ between these two
ladies; but, from the way they work together and support one
another, you couldn’t tell.
You could say that they ‘got one another’s back’ and it definitely
shows.

You could say that they ‘got one another’s back’ and it definitely
shows. It has been often said, “Two heads are better than
one”. Well, in this case, this sisterhood has developed another
saying, which is, "Four fists are better than two”.
It also proves another old and wise saying – “United, we stand.
Divided, we fall”.
With this bond of fistic sisterhood, all anyone can say to the
competition is, “Watch out!”
These gals are committed and they mean business!
Many thanks to Faith Wolfley, for her kind permission in letting me
do this ‘shootout’.
