BRIDGEVILLE
(MAR 5)
Upon
arriving
at the
Martial Arts and
Sports Complex
on February 25th, I expected to be taking some pictures of local
lady amateur boxer
Tika
Hemingway;
but, to my surprise, another local lady amateur boxer
Ashlei
Jaquay
was also available.
Jaquay is a very impressive boxer at the
age of 18, having already achieved some ring accomplishments, by
winning the 2005 AMA Open and WPAL Golden Gloves championships at
131 pounds, when she was only 17.
Being that she is starting out in
boxing at a young age, she will enjoy all the experience she
will get as an amateur, which will prepare her well, if she ever
considers turning pro. |

She trains at the
West Allegheny
Fighting Academy,
in nearby Imperial.
Being only 52 in height, Jaquay is a
perfect example of great things, coming in small packages.
This year, Ashlei will be competing in
the National Open Championship Tournament in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, at 125 pounds. She will have plenty of competition, being
that there will be a total of eight other girls competing in the
same weight division.
Afterward, Jaquay will return to
Pennsylvania to compete in the finals of the WPAL Golden Gloves
tournament, and then, hopefully, onto the National Golden Gloves
Tournament.
