Bonnie Mann told WBAN, "Hello Sue and
all Women Boxing Fans, I hope that each and everyone of you
are having a wonderful 2006 so far. I thought that I would just give
a brief update as to what I have been up too since I retired in
August. I just returned from Orlando, Florida, where I ran in
the 5K a precursor to the Disney Marathon that my partner ran. I
quickly realized that I need to get back into the gym to get in
shape. So I just started back in the gym yesterday with the goal of
getting back into boxing condition…..and no I am not getting back
into the ring !!! There have been many who have asked me too but
when I made the decision to retire I knew that it was a final
decision for me. I am however working with a couple of
people and was just informed by my coach; he will always be my
coach; that he has a female coming from Korea in April that he is
going to bring to me to work with. He is very excited about her and
so am I, so look out for some new blood on the scene towards the end
of this year. I am also working with a young man who will be making
his pro debut next month which will be my debut working the ring
from a different vantage point….trainer. I do miss the
competitiveness of the ring but I am enjoying this new avenue that
my life has taken. Just like when I was boxing I continue to have a
Fulltime job and work with the boxing after hours so…….never a dull
moment for The Queen “B”. As always several times a day I am on the
WBAN site to see who is doing what in our great sport. Ladies keep
up the good work, train hard and maaybe one day I will see you in the
ring!!! Bonnie Mann The Queen “B”Retired WBE Middleweight World
Champion"
Canino told WBAN, "When I retired from
boxing in 2000, I made a promise that I will help women's boxing,
and be a good boxing trainer. That means my boxers come first. Right
now, I train quite a few boxers that are in competition. It’s a lot
of work, besides my real Job. Most of the time, I’m lucky to be able
to get my own training in. I’m still in shape and I feel that my
skill level is better now than it was. I fought in the ring for 17
years, trying to be the best I can and first at everything I did.
That competitiveness you must have, you must eat and breathe it.
What do I have to prove? My fighters represent a little of me in
them. If the money is right or as a last minute substitute I would
fight. For now, I will keep my promise to myself to put my fighters
first. I will always live in the boxing world, as a trainer, an
advocate for women’s boxing, and amateur official and referee. I
love boxing and will always be involved in it."
Yauger told WBAN, "I have decided to
retire because I am now a mother of two adorable children, Caleb, 3,
and Aubrey 21 months. I just don’t have the time to commit to the
boxing schedule with children. I tried to get back into the gym last
April, but found that I was spending too much time away from my
babies and too much money for gym memberships. I did drop 40 lbs. of
all that baby weight, so that was good. I am currently working
full-time as an Administrative Assistant for a Communications
company in Grand Prairie, Texas, and I do still keep in shape by
running 5 days a week and I compete in local races. I really miss
boxing, but my time has passed and my skills are just not there
anymore. I always check WBAN and keep up with the current
boxers. It’s really exciting to see how far Women’s Boxing has
come."
After recovering from nose
surgery, Cristy "Code Red" Nickel is back to training with
Tom Moraetes in Augusta, GA and is looking for fights
(148-152 LBS). She just signed a contract for a 6-rounder in
Albany, NY against Liz Mooney on St. Patrick's Day, March
17th.

Acosta wrote to WBAN, "I am currently
working in South Texas as a Project Manager for Ericsson, I am part
of the team assisting Cingular Wireless "raise the bar". At the end
of this month I will be moving to San Antonio, TX were we will be
integrating the two networks, Cingular and AT&T into one.
Regretfully due to the high demands of my profession I have only
been working out to stay in shape (not fighting shape). The hope of
getting back in the ring lives inside me.
My work requires me to move around and I have visited and worked out
of many boxing gyms across the US. Many thanks to the trainers who
have been there to support and assist me knowing I am only passing
through."
Christina Nigg has been retired from boxing
since 2000, and she is now dedicated to her family, but is
still involved in various boxing projects with kids, and she is also
active in fitness boxing programs. She has completed an education as
Sport Manager. This education contained complex themes like
strategy, marketing, sponsoring, event management, organisation,
presentation, team management and risk management. She now manages
top athletes.
Laura Serrano-Garcia is one of the very top
women boxers of the world who has fought the best. Many have wondered if she was still
boxing. Serrano told WBAN that she is definitely still boxing.
“I`m still working very hard at
Don Nacho Beristàin`s gym, he trains Juan Manuel and Rafael Màrquez”,
said Serrano.
Serrano is managed by Infinity Boxing LLC (Butch Gottlieb/Mary Ann Owen).
