(DEC 26) Both Maureen Shea and Ann Marie
Saccurato appear to have a busy schedule coming up in 2006. While Shea
was originally scheduled to box at the Paradise Theatre in the Bronx on
December 9th, her bout fell out of the Cedric Kushner card two days
before. Not boxing that evening was a huge disappointment for Shea as
her bout was scheduled to be televised on Fox Sports en Espanol. Shea
was introduced to the audience along with Roberto Duran and several
other latin names. Shea was very well received by her home town
audience. The card is set to be televised December 23.
While Saccurato is scheduled to fight at Monticello Raceway on January
13, the February card at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, stands to be
a huge event. Shea is a senior at IONA College who commands a tremendous
fan base. While Shea will be a featured bout on the card, Saccurato will
be headlining the event. Ring Promotions became involved in the event
and has several dates at IONA this year. What makes this card
interesting is that two of the boxers on the card with the biggest fan
base and in featured bouts are both female.
Shea of course, is also scheduled to box at Foxwoods Casino underneath
the Pereira vrs Rakkietgym IBF featherweight World Title bout on January
20, 2006. That bout is scheduled for ESPN.
On March 16, Shea is also scheduled to box at Madison Square Garden on
"Irish Night", the day before St. Patrick's Day. A sell out is expected
as Shea will be boxing underneath John Duddy. Both Saccurato and Shea
will be back at IONA College on May 5th for Cinco de Mayo Boxing.
Negotiations are currently on the way for additional dates in the spring
of 2006 for Ann Marie Saccurato. The New York fan support and the New
York media have received both of these female boxers extremely well.
Promoters appear to recognize both of these athletes in a positive light
as opportunities to box keep coming. |
