(NOV 22) IWBF, WIBA, IBA Light Heavyweight and Middleweight Champ
Leatitia “Baby Girl” Robinson seems to have made a miraculous recovery
from her so called injury.
She was scheduled to defend her WIBA world title against Shelley Burton
on last Saturdays "A Ring of their Own World Title Wave" pay-per-view
show in Canada. SHE PULLED OUT 72 HOURS BEFORE THE FIGHT claiming an
injury to the cartilage in her nose.
Lo and behold, she is fighting tomorrow night, 5 days later, in her
hometown, against a fighter who is 6-6 and has NEVER won a fight against
an opponent with 1 win on their record. All of her wins have come
against pro debuters.
Robinson made the following statement: "I’m closer than I’ve ever been
to being ‘pound for pound’ the best fighter in the sport and nothing and
no one is going to stop me from achieving my goal." Well, Team Burton
firmly believes that Robinson's only injury would have been to her
undefeated record and she knew that and that is why she pulled out.
Robinson also stated that "You don’t have the success I’ve had as a
fighter and get soft." My question is: Who has your success come
against? Your fight against Monica Nunez who got hit 1 time and stayed
down, Valerie Mahfood who is considered a great "opponent", Nikki Eplion
who you won the WIBA title from but who's 14 opponents previous to
fighting you had a combined record of 30-12 with 5 of them being pro
debuters and 1 fighter, Mary Ann Almagar having 14 of those wins or
Yvonne Reis who you went 10 rounds against and who Shelley TKO'd ?
The WIBA has to step in and stop this fight against Geiger and either
force Robinson to defend against Shelley Burton as soon as possible or
relinquish the title.
We also have just been informed that the Canadian Promoters of last
Saturdays card have filed a complaint with the Canadian Boxing
Commission and have requested that they immediately suspend Letitia
Robinson. That suspension would be for 1 year per their rules.
All of us that are involved in Womens boxing work very hard to bring
credability to the sport and then something like this happens that
shoots down everything that we have worked so hard to achieve.

Statement from Leatitia Robinson on WBAN
(Chicago, IL) -- IWBF, WBA, IBA Light Heavyweight and Middleweight Champ
Leatitia “Baby Girl” Robinson (13-0-0, 9 KOs) will face Cassandra Geiger
(6-6-0, KOs 6), at Club O Arena, Harvey, Illinois, at Thanksgiving Eve
Boxing Classic, November 23, 2005, presented by Hitz Boxing Promotions
and NuFace Entertainment.
Robinson was scheduled to fight in Canada, November 18 against “Tough
Woman” Shelley Burton (7-2-0, 1KOs) but pulled out due to an injury to
cartilage in her nose.
For any boxer or promoter who may have called into question Robinson’s
confidence and heart, Robinson set the record straight on any statements
that are far from the truth.
“I will fight Shelly anytime, any day, said Robinson. It is ridiculous
to think I was scared to fight. You don’t have the success I’ve had as a
fighter and get soft. I’m closer than I’ve ever been to being ‘pound for
pound’ the best fighter in the sport and nothing and no one is going to
stop me from achieving my goal. Consulting with my doctor, we made a
decision that was best for my health and my longevity in this sport.
Make no mistake, I’m going to be around for a long time.”
Robinson has earned additional notoriety since she knocked out Mónica
Núñez last February in Atlanta. Robinson’s televised win on ESPN upped
the excitement on a showdown with Laila Ali. Currently Robinson’s camp
is engaged in talks with Laila Ali for a title match in 2006.
Cassandra Geiger’s last fight was against Vonda Ward at Gund Arena in
Cleveland, Ohio last July. Geiger lost to Ward by a unanimous decision
(88-100).
