NARRAGANSETT, RI -- Newly crowned IWBF
world lightweight champion Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt is trying
to do her part in helping with relief efforts for the victims of
Hurricane Katrina, however eBay is making things hard
on her. Jaime listed the boxing trunks she wore in her first world
championship winning fight on eBay, with 100% of the proceeds of the
auction being donated to the American Red Cross to help with Katrina
relief. The auction had reached $185 in just two days, however it
was abruptly removed by eBay last night.
According to eBay officials, it
was removed because you have to register with MissionFish, which is
the dedicated solution provider for eBay Giving Works, and an
eBay-licensed third-party partner.
"I've been watching what has been going on in
Mississippi and Louisiana and its terrible," said Clampitt, now a
two-time world champion. "I wanted to do something to help out. I
wish I could do more, but hopefully we can raise some money through
this auction to at least help out one person. Hopefully those who
bid on the trunks the first time around will return. It is really a
shame, if they had contacted us before just removing the auction we
would have gladly registered with their service. I do not think
that, with what's going on right now, eBay should have just removed
it without at least letting us know first."
Clampitt, who just won the IWBF lightweight crown August 26th with a
4th round stoppage over Shelby Walker, has listed the trunks she
wore on October 31, 2003 when she defeated Eliza Olson for the IWBF
world junior welterweight crown. In addition to the trunks, she is
offering the winning bidder a personalized autographed picture as
well as a DVD of her most recent fight with Walker.
"The trunks have alot of personal value to me," said Clampitt. "I
won my first world title in these trunks and also I had my trainer
Tiny Ricci in my corner that night. It would be the second to last
fight I would ever have Tiny in my corner and he was so proud to
have a champion."
Ricci passed away last June, just two days prior to Clampitt's bout
with four-time world champion Jane Couch. Clampitt would go on to
lose her belts via close decision.
