Sharon Anyos to fight Marcela Acuna for WBC World Featherweight Title

September 4, 2005

(SEPT 4) On October 22nd, at the Broadbeach Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Australia, Sharon "Wild Thing" Anyos, of Australia will be fighting Marcela "The Tigress" Acuna, Argentina, for the WBC World featherweight title belt.

Team Anyos told WBAN, "I just wanted to keep you informed on what's happening in Australia with Sharon.  The WBC has sanctioned the World Featherweight title fight in Australia between Anyos and Acuna.  The WBC chose Acuna for opponent after Jeffries declined the offer to fight Sharon.

The event has been marked as an official off track event for Lexmark Indy 300 which is Queensland's biggest car race held each year and attracts over 350,000 spectators from all over the world.

The WBC title fight is the official Saturday evening event for the the weekend of the race schedule and the girls are main event. The event is being held at Broadbeach Convention and Exhibition Centre which holds just under 6000 spectators.  This event is being marked as the biggest boxing event in Australia this year."

They added, "The support this bout is getting throughout Australia is definitely a very positive sign for the future of female boxing here in our country."
