Professional Boxing in Downtown Monterey - July 2, 2005!
May 16, 2005

(MAY 16) Several battles between undefeated prospects highlight the first ever RIOT event at the Conference Center in Downtown Monterey..including a Women's Flyweight championship bout. Local favorite Carina Moreno (7-0 Watsonville) faces her toughest challenge in Julie Rubalcava (4-0 Garden Grove).

The winner of this 112 pound 8 round battle (flyweights) will capture the California State Championship. Another outstanding matchup of unbeaten boxers has Sadot Vazquez (3-0 Keene Texas) taking on Joel Santiago (4-0 Las Vegas) in a 126 pound war (featherweights).

Other prime prospects who enjoy spotless records include George Garcia (7-0 Glendale Az.) a heavyweight who fought on the Mexican Olympic Team, Enrique Gutierrez (4-0) Santa Rosa, a 6 time San Francisco Golden Gloves Champion at welterweight, and Alejandro Perez (3-0-1) of Saliinas in a Bantamweight battle.

To explain how so many undefeated prospects can appear on one show against other unbeatens, promoter  /matchmaker Jerry Hoffman explains "usually promoters protect fighters who sign contracts for multiple fights with them.

We contract for a specific fight only. Boxers love to fight in Monterey with the knowledge that so many prospects who have fought here, have become World Champions like Sugar Shane Mosley, James Page, Stevie Johnston and Gina Guidi. Hopefully, a couple of our more recent local prize prospects Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero and Jose Celaya will achieve World Championship status soon." Hoffman continues, "Undefeated prospects fighting eachother so early in their careers shows how dedicated and confident these highly touted fighters are".

Making evenly matched bouts for the past 10 years in Monterey is the secret to selling out every show promoted by 12 Sports Productions. "There's so much more excitement and energy when boxing fans don't know who's going to win".
