JoAnn Hagen of Akron, Ohio, left, world's 126-pound champ, brings crowd of 4, 000 roaring to its feet with wicked left hook to Pat Emerick's face in  six-round bout in Cincinnati.

1950's
One of the most noted women in the 1950's was none other than Barbara Buttrick and Kugler...They broke many barriers in their time in the sport...

1970's
Films came out in the 1970's that featured amateurish women, boxing each other....Surprisingly, two talented boxers came from this background in the sport...which included Diane Syverson and Kim Maybee.....

1974
Young girls were involved in the sport as early as 1973...This was one of the "Junior Missy Gloves" participants...

1975
Need us not forget about this pioneer, Marion Bermudez, excellent in Martial Arts and Boxing....She entered the Golden Gloves tournament in Arizona and stopped her first Male opponent...

1976
Lavonne Ludian, a 21-dealer from Las Vegas, was extremely popular as a boxer...she drew large crowds. Clint Eastwood was a special friend of Ludian's who would attend her fights...

1977-78
There were some real "knockouts" in the 1970's...which included tall and lean blond bombshell Diane Syverson....She did not stay in the sport very long, but she gained popularity  when she entered the sport...

1978-79
Another popular boxer on the scene, Karen Bennett from Las Vegas....Bennett took on some very tough fights, including her quick dispatching of Bonnie Prestwood of Indiana...

1978
You here so much about Dallas Malloy and her legal battle to fight in the amateurs in 1993, but no one realizes that Ginger Kaufman and other women first fought in sanctioned amateur competition in 1978!

1979
Bam Bam Smith was reported as the  first woman to box in New York...NO Christy Martin was NOT the first to fight in New York....Boxers WAY before her fought in New York.....

1980's
Louise Loo, a lil' spitfire in the 1980s....the sport was moving right along with these pioneer boxers...

1980's
Shirley "Zebra Girl" Tucker...probably considered the best woman boxer in her era, besides Gracie Casillas...Tucker took on the California Athletic Commission on two issues.. longer rounds, and the right to fight men....

1984
Cathy "Cat" Davis was the good, the bad, and the ugly of the sport....She did a lot to promote the sport, but worked with a questionable manager who managed her...WBAN will tell more on this when and If Cat will tell us the scoop...WBAN has been in contact with her..
