(DEC 21) RICHMOND, VIRGINIA - Twenty-six champions were named during day five of the 2024 USA Boxing National Championships inside the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va. Nisa Rodriguez Wins by TKO over Melody Popravak

(DEC 18)  Last night at Sony Hall, in New York, Nisa Rodriguez, 165, won by a second round TKO over Melody Popravak, 162 3/4, out of Snellville, Georgia. According to a press release, Rodriguez rocked Popravak with just 30 seconds to go in round two. The bout was scheduled for six rounds. Rodriguez remains undefeated at 3-0-0 (1KO), and Popravak is now 2-3-1 (1KO).  Full fight Results

(DEC 18) The year was 1983, the venue was at the Civic Auditorium, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.    Women's Boxing was a struggle in the late 1970s and 1980s, with the difficulty of finding opponents to fight and at that time women's boxing was looked at more in the light of being a special feature on a card, and the media was not very kind many times when they wrote about females who wanted to fight in the sport. Two Female Bouts in Uruguay!

Oshae Jones Defeats Femke Hermans to Win IBF and IBO Super Welterweight Titles

(NOV 29) On Friday night, November 22nd, at Corey Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, Oshae “Suga” Jones of Toledo, Ohio won the IBF and IBO super welterweight titles against Femke “Thunder” Hermans of Belgium. Hermans was making the third defense of her IBO title and the first defense of her IBF title. Hermans had defeated Mary Spencer of Canada by unanimous decision to win the vacant IBO title in 2022. In the rematch in 2023, Hermans defeated Spencer by majority decision to win the vacant IBF title.  Full Story

(NOV 17) Last night at Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, Oregon, Anne Maxwell, of Mt. Vernon, Washington faced Kathlyn Martinez, of North Plains, Oregon,  in a super flyweight bout scheduled for four rounds. The event was promoted by Arena Wars Promotions. Maxwell’s previous ring experience came as an amateur kickboxer. Team USA sent 11 boxers, six male and five females, to World Boxing inaugural World Championships.Team USA with little international experience went to Colorado and earned eight medals including three gold. New Zealand volunteer Boxing records keeper calls it quits after 10 years of service

(NOV 3) 32-year-old Boxing records keeper for and judge Benjamin Thomas Watt (Ngāpuhi) has decided to retire after 10 years of service to New Zealand boxing after 2024.  Watt started records keeping for Boxrec in November 2014 and has been a boxing judge since March 2015. He is known for wearing many hats, including Wikipedia editing, freelance boxing writer, YouTube personality with Gladrap channel, and, of course, records keeping and boxing judging. World Boxing agrees to delegate adjudication on all anti-doping violations

(OCT 11) RENES, Lausanne, Switzerland – World Boxing has agreed to delegate adjudication on all anti-doping violations to the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS AAD), a separate entity of the CAS which deals solely with Anti- doping hearings.  It means that CAS ADD will be the first instance authority to adjudicate on all alleged violations detected by World Boxing’s anti-doping processes and will decide on the appropriate sanction for any breach of the rules.  Full Story

(OCT 8) On Sunday, October 6th, at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Angelina “Barbie” Lukas of Kazakhstan obtained the vacant International Boxing Organization (IBO) super flyweight title by a controversial unanimous decision over Debora Anahi Lopez of Argentina. Lukas was rated No. 9 by the IBO in the super flyweight division. Lopez was not rated only because she had been inactive for over one year. (AUG 26) We have found throughout the years that we find many believing that this or that female professional boxer was the first to receive a professional boxing license in the United States.  When I first began covering the history of women's boxing----even I had it wrong!  I thought that it had all began with Caroline Svendsen, who received a professional boxing license in the state of Nevada in 1975.  Little did I know that before 1975, that Barbara Buttrick and others were licensed in the 1950s-1960s, according to Buttrick, an icon in the sport from that era.  Full Story

(AUG 17) Minimumweight contender Ryu Kyung Suh of South Korea and Kanae Maehara of Japan fought to a majority draw in a six-round bout at the Yugwansun Gymnasium in Cheonan, South Korea on Thursday, August 15. The total scores of the judges were 58-56 in favor of Suh and 57-57 from the other two judges. The fight was in the minimumweight division which has a weight limit of 105 pounds. (AUGUST 3) PARIS – Alyssa Mendoza fell short in the round of 16 with a 4-1 loss to Brazil’s Jucielen Cerqueira Romeu earlier yesterday (Friday) at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.  Mendoza kept the fight close as each featherweight boxer took one of the opening two rounds by a score of 3-2 to enter the final round tied up. (AUG 1) PARIS  – Team USA fell short in both bouts Thursday morning as Jennifer Lozano's (Laredo, Texas) and Morelle McCane's (Cleveland, Ohio) Olympic journeys concluded. Lozano fell short to Finland's Pihla Kaivo-Oja via a unanimous decision. As for McCane, she lost to Uzbekistan's Navbakhor Khamidova on a 3-2 split decision. McCane went down 4-1 after the first round but responded in the second round with a 4-1 score for herself. Skye Nicolson Wins easily to successfully defend her WBC Title

(JULY 14) Last night at the Wells Fargo Center, in Philadelphia, Australia's Skye Nicolson, 125 1/2,  successfully defended her WBC Featherweight title when she easily defeated Dyana Vargas, 125 1/2, from the Dominican Republic. (JULY 8) This week WBAN received an update on female boxer Alejandra “la Fenix” Ayala by Sinéad Babington who said that she finally had gotten up to Tijuana to see Alejandra and see her gym that she had opened before going to Scotland to fight over two years ago.  Babington said the following: In what was a fight of a lifetime for this talented boxer, that took place on  May 13th at the SSE Hydro, in Glasgow, Scotland, super welterweight Hannah Rankin, 153 1/2, won by a ten-round TKO over  Ayala. The two were fighting for the WBA Super Welterweight and the IBO Super Welterweight titles.  According to news sources, she was taken to a hospital immediately after the fight and had an undisclosed surgery.  Some media sources said it was a Hematoma, and we have not verified that information.  Full Story

(JULY 2) On Saturday, June 29th, at the Miccosukee Casino & Resort in Miami, Florida  Elia “Soul Snatcher” Carranza of Miami, Florida won a unanimous decision over Kaitlin LaVigne of Overland Park, Kansas in a six-round bout. Although it was classified as a super welterweight fight, the boxers’ weights were not within that weight class. Carranza weighed in at 157.2 pounds, which is middleweight whereas LaVigne weighed in 162.4 pounds which is super middleweight.  Full Story

Geovana Peres makes history in second New Zealand National Muay Thai title win

(JUNE 22) Geovana Peres made history in Tauranga on Saturday night, winning her second Muay Thai professional title against Hometown favourite Faith Mcmah and becoming the first-ever WBC Muay Thai Heavyweight female champion. The two had fought before back in November 2022, where Peres won the fight by split decision, winning the WMC New Zealand national Heavyweight title. (MAY 1) On Saturday, April 27th, at the Miccosukee Casino & Resort in Miami, Florida, Olivia Curry, 159.8, and Melody Popravak, 158.4, fought to a draw in a six-round bout in the middleweight division.  The rounds were each two minutes in duration. Curry is a contender in the super middleweight division with a rating of No. 5 by the International Boxing Organization (IBO). (MARCH 3) Chevelle “Fists of Steel” Hallback of Plant City, Florida returned to the ring in March 2024 since her previous fight in December 2022 and won against Yamila “La Maquinita” Reynoso of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mea Motu returns to ABA Stadium in April

(FEB 23) In a shocking announcement this week, Peach boxers Jerome Pampellone, Andrei Mikhailovich, and Northlands Mea Motu have ended the business relationship with Dean Lonergan and signed with No Limit Boxing. FEB 23) Alycia Baumgardner won by unanimous decision in her rematch against Christina Linardatou on July 15, 2023 and successfully defended her WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles. (JAN 5, 2024) On Saturday night, January 7th, Jennifer Miranda, of Madrid, Spain, will be facing Lara Altamirano in a ten round bout for WBA Interim World Featherweight title.  Miranda, is undefeated with a 9-0-0 (1KO) record.  Altamirano is also undefeated with a 9-0-1 (0KO) boxing record, from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

(JAN 4, 2024) Since the tradition began in 2019, Benjamin Thomas Watt created his own recognition awards for the boxing community. This year, Benji returned the voting portion of the awards as it became too difficult to choose boxer of the year as we can have a four-way tie between Joseph Parker, Jerome Pampellone, Mea Motu and Lani Daniels.  Full Story

(JAN 1, 2024) On December 2nd through 9th, 2023 the 2023 Olympic Trials took place at the Cajun Dome & Convention Center, Lafayette, Louisiana.  On December 8th, 2023 of Ring 2 was flawed. There was a timing error which would cause the RE-DO of four the contested bouts. In Ring 2 the timer was set at 2-minute rounds instead of 3-minute rounds which is standard bout time for Youth and Elite boxers.  Full Story
