Katie Taylor Could Be Set for One of Biggest Fights Of 2024

Irish boxer Katie Taylor is preparing to box in front of her home supporters in Dublin in May. (MARCH 3) Chevelle “Fists of Steel” Hallback of Plant City, Florida returned to the ring in March 2024 since her previous fight in December 2022 and won against Yamila “La Maquinita” Reynoso of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This fight was for the vacant National Boxing Association (NBA) welterweight title. The fight was scheduled for 10 two-minute rounds. The promoter was Alessi Promotions. Mea Motu returns to ABA Stadium in April

(MAR 2) For the first time in 18 months, the IBO World Super Bantamweight champion Mea Motu will be returning to the historical ABA Stadium in Auckland on April 26.  During the recent Peach boxing event with Erin Walsh and Emma Nesbitt in the co-main event in the show, Mea Motu announced that she will be fighting at ABA Stadium against an opponent yet to be announced. (FEB 23) In a shocking announcement this week, Peach boxers Jerome Pampellone, Andrei Mikhailovich, and Northlands Mea Motu have ended the business relationship with Dean Lonergan and signed with No Limit Boxing. Lani Daniels has yet to announce her next move.  It was announced this week while Isaac Peach was in hospital with kidney stones that Peach Boxing will end their business relationship with Dean Lonergan under D&L Events. Sanctioning Bodies and Sports Media Have Opinions About Baumgardner

FEB 23) Alycia Baumgardner won by unanimous decision in her rematch against Christina Linardatou on July 15, 2023 and successfully defended her WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles. (JAN 12) The Missy Junior Gloves Boxing Club was the oldest of the five boxing clubs in Texas, that allowed young ladies to box in the 70's. The coach, a devoted man to boxing, and music, Doyle Weaver, was very committed to having such a facility for these youngsters.  Weaver originally organized the Missy Junior Gloves in 1968 in Pleasant Grove. (JAN 7, 2024) Stacy Prestage was named an inductee into the Class of 2024 for the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame (FBHOF). All the inductees for the Class of 2024 were announced at the SJC Boxing Gym in Fort Myers, Florida. FBHOF President Steven J. Canton is the owner of the SJC Gym which also has the FBHOF Museum. Canton was inducted into the inaugural class of the FBHOF in 2009 as a trainer and manager. Full Story

(JAN 1, 2024) On December 2nd through 9th, 2023 the 2023 Olympic Trials took place at the Cajun Dome & Convention Center, Lafayette, Louisiana.  On December 8th, 2023 of Ring 2 was flawed. There was a timing error which would cause the RE-DO of four the contested bouts. In Ring 2 the timer was set at 2-minute rounds instead of 3-minute rounds which is standard bout time for Youth and Elite boxers.  Full Story

Three of the biggest women’s boxing stars of this generation

Although it is not often spoken about very much, women’s boxing is just as big as the male counterpart sport. Starting in 1876, with the first female boxing match being held in the US, boxing has moved in leaps and bounds from what it once was. Though the prize for that first-ever match was a “silver butter dish,” today’s winnings are more in line with what the male boxers are awarded (which is a relief, because how inappropriate would a kitchen-related prize be for women now? Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano was particularly damning towards the governing body after she vacated her WBC World featherweight title after a disagreement over equal rights in the sport.

Amateur Female Boxer Asia Smith died in a Tragic Vehicle Accident

(NOV 26)  IBO World Super Bantamweight Champion Mea Motu and IBF World Heavyweight Champion Lani Daniels were both honoured over the weekend at the Maori Sports Awards in Tauranga.  The annual Maori Sports Awards took place Saturday night at Mercury Baypark, Mt Maunganui, New Zealand. 10 different awards were up for grabs including Te Pikinga o Tawhāki Individual Māori World Champions. (OCT 15)  Stacy Prestage was the first Women’s International Boxing Federation (WIBF) world champion, but she did not have the belt that she won anymore because it was stolen. It was my mission to give her a WIBF belt. It is not the belt that was taken from her, but it is an authentic WIBF belt. It was the last belt made for Barbara Buttrick before she retired. She co-founded the WIBF with Jimmy Finn in 1993. That was the year that the WIBF sanctioned their first world title fight.
