(APR 9) As we previously informed you here on WBAN, the AIBA in their wisdom postponed the 2016 Women’s World Championships which were due to take place February 1st to 14th until the new dates 19th to 27th May.  The event was to have delivered the first 12 quota places for women for the Rio Games , but an International Boxing Association (AIBA) spokesperson admitted in November that it would have to be delayed by three months so that organisers had more time to get ready.  Full Story

(MAR 29)  The 2016 Asian/Oceanian Olympic qualifying tournament opened in Qianan, China with but few surprises in the opening sessions of either men’s or women’s preliminaries.  Disappointment though for Australia’s Kristy Harris in the women’s 51kg class, going under 3:0 to Thailand’s Peamwilai Laopeam. (MAR 20) BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA -The day that Mikaela Mayer (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been working toward for the past six years finally came on Saturday at the Americas Qualifier in Buenos Aires. The American lightweight clinched her berth in the 2016 Olympic Games with a gold medal victory in Argentina. She was one of four victories on an undefeated day for the United States.
