(FEB 19)  Today at the Mayweather Boxing Gym, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Louisa Hawton, 108 lbs., 7-0-0 (3KO), from Perth, Australia, was workingout at the gym, but she trains in California.  She is with  Trainer Jimmy Montoya, and boxing manager Elvis Grant.  Hawton is set to fight February 24, 2018 at the Forum, in Los Angeles, California.    Hawton will be fighting Anahi Torres for the vacant WBC International Light Flyweight title, according to Boxrec.  Full Story

Boxing faces expulsion from Olympic Games 2020 and beyond

(FEB 18)  Boxing is right now facing a major threat from the I.O.C to exclude it from future Olympic Games unless the International Boxing Association (AIBA) puts its house in order after years of infighting and alleged financial disasters. The sport has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since its introduction to the program at the 1904 Olympics, except for the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, because Swedish law banned the sport at that time.  Full Story

AIBA releases Progress Report on governance

(FEB 4)  Today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board decided to maintain the financial suspension of AIBA and demanded a new report on AIBA governance by April 30th. (FEB 4)  AGUASCALIENTES, MX  - On Friday night at the Explanada de Expoplaza in Aguascalientes, MX, Sugar Promotions presented "New Blood". In the 10-round main event Issac "Canelito" Avelar (14-0, 9 KOs) captured the WBC FECOMBOX  Featherweight title with a TKO victory over Alejandro Frias (6-3-1, 3 KOs).  Avelar, a southpaw who was fighting in front of his hometown fans, applied pressure from the opening bell, forcing Frias to fight going backwards. Avelar used a lot of faints to keep Frias off balance, giving him opportunities to a land a lot of power shots. In the middle rounds, Avelar was overpowering the taller Frias, forcing him fight off the ropes. As the fight entered the later rounds,  Full Story

(JAN 27, 2018) - Associated Press)  A boxing official described as "one of Uzbekistan's leading criminals" by United States authorities has been named interim president of the Olympic sport's governing body.  The International Boxing Federation (AIBA) said its vice-president Gafur Rakhimov was promoted on Saturday after the "unexpected resignation" of interim leader Franco Falcinelli.  Full Story

(JAN 27) In the latest news on the net, with an upcoming amateur boxing event that will take place, news sources report that this year will be the first to include female boxers in the Texas State Golden Gloves Tournament. The event will take place from February 28 to March 3, 2018. The venue is set to take place at the John Justin Arena on the Will Rogers Complex in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.  Last night at the Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan, there was a Japan Female Bantamweight title bout on the card between Miyo Yoshida vs. Tomomi Takano.  Yoshida won a six-round unanimous decision over Tomomi Takano.  Final judges scores were 58-57 on all three judges’ scorecards.  This was a very first Japan’s female title bout under sanctions from the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC).  Full Story

(OCT 6)  I grew up, in a long gone era, when boxing in New York City competed for primacy in the hearts of sports fans with baseball, college basketball and horse racing.. Madison Square Garden, located on 8th Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets, was, emphatically, the mecca of boxing, not only in the city, but throughout the country and, probably, the world. But it was the strong foundation of neighborhood clubs throughout the five boroughs that fueled the popularity of the sport. St. Nicks Arena in Manhattan, Eastern Parkway Arena in Brooklyn and Sunnyside Garden in Queens made up the "big three". In addition to numerous clubs throughout the city, active venues extended as far north as White Plains where the Westchester County Center hosted frequent cards. (OCT 6) Alrie Meleisea will be defending her New Zealand National (NZPBA Version) heavyweight title against Mandatory challenger, Sarah Long on November 11th at ABA Stadium.  Sarah Long (2 - 2 - 0 boxing/ 5 - 4 - 0 kickboxing) was made mandatory challenger back in August this year. The bout was originally going to take place in October under S.A.L.T promotions (Long’s Management), however due to other commitments the show was postponed.
