Natasha Jonas: More Rounds, More Minutes, Show me the MONEY!
Source: MSN
December 8, 2023

(DEC 8)  On January 20, 2024, on a BOXXER promoted live boxing card, that will take place in Liverpool, will featured Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer and presently is set to face each other for the IBF World Welterweight title over ten rounds, two minute per rounds.  Mayer would like it to be over 12 rounds, at three minutes per round.

On an MSN article the headline states the following:  "Longer rounds? More money!

Natasha Jonas calls for cash upgrade if Mayer bout is three-minute rounds" in the article it says, "Natasha Jonas will consider facing Mikaela Mayer over three-minute rounds but believes more time in the ring should equate to greater financial rewards. Jonas will defend her IBF world welterweight title against Mayer across 10 two-minute rounds at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on January 20, but her American opponent wants the contest to be be brought into line with the men’s sport. WBAN's thoughts on the matter:  Longer rounds, minutes --More money!

Jonas goes on to state,  "“It opens a can of worms. We want fairer pay. No one is saying we want equal pay, but it’s got to be fair and show that if you’re doing more rounds then you’re going to get more money. That would be a good thing."

Promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER in another article on the net said the following:  "Ben Shalom claims the three-minute round debate in women's boxing is 'about entertainment and what allows us to grow the sport'... as the promoter tells The Hook 'we'll get there' but insists it is 'up to the fighters'".

We would link that article but the website is so cluttered  with SO MANY excessive ads around it, it was irritating to even read through it.

WBAN will keep boxing fans updated on this latest bit of news!
